I WOULD be very pleased to make contact with any former Cammell Laird apprentices who worked on an unusual project in 1966/7.
This was the construction of the sculptural water fountain in the former Goree Piazza, Drury Lane, Liverpool. I believe it is now affectionately known as the ‘Bucket Fountain’ in the re-named Beetham Plaza.
It was designed by Richard Huws, who began working life as an 18-year-old apprentice at Cammell Laird in 1920. He went on to design many more sculptural water features, whilst also being a full-time lecturer in design at the Liverpool University School of Architecture.
I would be delighted to hear from any Cammell Laird ‘fountaineers’ who worked on the construction of the Liverpool ‘bucket fountain’ in 1966/7, and would be willing to share memories of the project.
If any ‘fountaineers’ would like to make contact, I can be reached by telephone on 07810 357636 or email on stewart.denham@hotmail.com.
