HOW depressing to walk around Birkenhead Market. There are more stalls shut now than open.

Sadly, with so many supermarkets about, the old markets will never thrive again and the same closures are happening in the precinct as well.

But there IS a solution. Why not move each stall holder into an empty shop in the precinct to fill it up but let the stall holders rent the shop at the price they rented the market stall as a goodwill gesture for keeping the market going all these years?

This will save millions of council money in building a new market.

As people don’t seem to use the old market why does the council think people are going to use a new market? But once the market is demolished please don’t build a drive-through McDonald’s. That’s the last thing Birkenhead needs!
