THE proposed golf resort scheme in Hoylake has attracted huge opposition for many valid reasons.

These include the loss of precious Green Belt, threat of flooding, impacts on wild life and air quality as well as the risk to public funds (£26m) from supporting such a commercially risky enterprise.

A further compelling reason is provided by the recent United Nations report which concludes that carbon emissions must be quickly and massively slashed if we are to avert climate breakdown.

In that context, to even propose a new settlement of car-dependent executive homes, surrounded by an energy sapping golf course, all serviced by an extensive new road system, is simply unacceptable.

To pursue such a folly would represent a betrayal of current and future generations.
