THE present speed limits on Brimstage Road and Barnston Road, Heswall continue to mislead and endanger road users.

At the junction of Whitehouse Lane with Brimstage Road, the 50mph speed limit suggests this is a safe speed to travel at the location of a sharp bend and in the vicinity of two care homes.

A road sign in this area illustrates, ironically, the conflict of vehicle high speed with elderly pedestrians needing to cross and access adjacent the road with little protection.

At the Thingwall end of Barnston Road the speed limits have been recently reduced to 30mph leaving short sections of 40mph with resulting confusion.

At the end of the road approaching the roundabout near the corner with Arrowe Park, the 40mph speed limit sign encourages drivers to speed up as they approach the roundabout contrary to safe driving.

Wirral Council's highway engineers need to apply common sense when deciding on the appropriate speed limit to protect the users of our public roads.
