I FAIL to comprehend Wirral Council's strategy of lending ratepayers' money to other councils.
Over the last few years they have lent £51.7m to around 19 councils at ridiculously low rates of interest.
They are never actually doing the unthinkable of spending all their ratepayers' money on the ratepayers.
If these councils do need the money, why don't they increase council tax to plug the deficit.
This, of course, begs the question as to why our council have increased our council tax by 6% this time.
Is it to be the Bank of Wirral able to lend more money?
I also resent thousands of pounds being spent on consultants.
I will give the council some advice for free.
In the year 2017/18 they lent three councils a total of £13m.
At the rates of interest charged this would raise £55,300 pounds per annum.
However, the council have just voted to spend £140,000 per annum on their newspaper, Wirral View. It's a no-brainer.
Stop wasting the money on their rag and then they won't have to lend money to other councils and the money can be spent in Wirral on getting rid of the grass in pavements, on making sure the street lights work, on filling the potholes in the roads etc.
