FATHER Christmas, with a team of dedicated elves, has for many years been a familiar sight in Wallasey each December.
This Christmas-time, as always, Santa again helped Wallasey Lions Club to raise much needed money for local good causes.
In a splendid new sleigh, built by the craft apprentices of Wirral Met, he delighted children (of all ages!) in Liscard shopping centre, at Morrisons in New Brighton, at Asda in Liscard and at Bidston Tesco – as well as touring through residential areas each evening.
Wallasey Lions' president John Pulford thanked his local team of volunteers for bursting through previous records with the new Christmas record of £15,208.
He said: "This could not have been possible without the generosity of local business sponsors including West Wallasey Contract Hire who generously donated the vehicle for a month, Brandon Hire for the use of a generator, and of course Wirral Met's "Sleigh-wright" craft apprentice volunteers who built the sleigh.
"In a visit of only ten minutes the patrons of Wallasey’s famous Cheshire Cheese alone contributed £140."
