TRANMERE Rovers' boss Micky Mellon hopes his players will punch above their weight against Peterborough United in the Emirates FA Cup first round replay at Prenton Park tonight.

In an interview on the club's website, Mellon added that the club's supporters will create a 'fantastic atmosphere' for the game, which starts at 7.45pm.

Looking forward to the match Mellon said: "It's always very special, under the floodlights at Prenton Park in the cup competitions.

"Tranmere have always done well in the cups, for the size of club we are, we’ve punched above our weight.

"The battling qualities of the people in the Birkenhead area is massive and it’s something we always try to tap into, that mentality.

"The fans expect their football team to represent that.

"It's makes for a great atmosphere, especially in cup ties against higher league opposition."

Praising the club's supporters, he said: "The fans have always got right behind us, in particular with our mates with the drums and all the rest of it!

"It's fantastic the atmosphere they create, and we always say what a big impact it has on the team when the crowd really get behind them.

"On Saturday, almost instinctively, they knew they had to rise and get us going when we fell under a little bit of pressure, and keep us going to the end and showing the players that they’re with them.

"As an entire football club, everyone has their part to play including the supporters.

"They understand that they're here to support the team so they come along and make sure they take part in the game."
