IT is the clash of the titans in the Liverpool Competition Premier Division this Saturday with Ormskirk at home to New Brighton.

The outcome will have a major bearing on the title.

Both clubs won their last matches on a very damp Saturday and the seasiders retained a five points advantage over their Lancashire rivals.

New Brighton beat Rainhill by six wickets. Martyn Evans (4-49) and Ashraf Nawab (3-35) helped restrict the visitors to 172 in 47 overs.

The home side needed 29.2 overs to pass the total. Luke Proctor undefeated on 51, Khurram Hussain (46) and David While (45) led the way.

Ormskirk were too good for Birkenhead Park and won by four wickets. Mike Barnes with 39 top-scored for Park after they were put in.

They were back in the pavilion for 120 leaving Ormskirk to ease to victory.

Wallasey remain bottom of the table after a 133 runs reverse at Southport & Birkdale. Steve Potter (39) and Lahiru Wellalege (4-85) did their best.

Caldy took the Division Two derby against Birkenhead St Mary's by seven wickets. Peter Williams made 35 for the Saints but the 97 total proved inadequate.

Best for the winners were Dave Kay (4-5), Muhhamad Qasim (4-21) and Simon Simcox who was bowled one short of his half century.

Parkfield Liscard lost a low scoring affair at Old Xaverians by eleven runs. Simon Deplesa took 6-23 and top scored on 21 for the Wirral club.

Neston boosted hopes of survival in the Premier Division of the Cheshire County League with a 33 runs success at home to Chester Broughton Hall.

Players to the fore were Simon Mugava 39 and 4-54, Simon Stokes 54 and Paul Stimson (4-28).

Oxton's Division One clash with Weaverham was a weather victim whilst in Division Two Irby and Upton were involved in rain affected draws.

Warrington's last pair denied Irby (M Smith, 85), (Gibson, 4-29). Northwich were three runs short of victory at Upton with three wickets intact.

The weather interferred at Old Parkonians who were two wickets away from victory over Knutsford.

Best for Parks were Greg Lindop undefeated on 43, Sean Marnick (37) and Adam Westwater (4-32).

Sam O'Connell (44) and Dave Henwood (53) enjoyed an unbroken sixth wicket partnership of 84 for Wirral in their Cheshre League Division Three match at Langley who could not start their innings.
