AN administration error wrongly put New Brighton top of the Liverpool Competition Premier Division last week but they certainly enhanced chances of the title when winning their latest outing on Saturday.

Martyn Evans struck 111 including thirteen fours and a six to help the seasiders to a 232 total at Leigh who were all out 182 in reply. Ashraf Nawab enjoyed a 5-55 haul.

The Birkenhead Park v Wallasey derby ended in a draw. Greg Beaver contributed 122 for Wallasey including eleven fours and seven sixes. Graham Reid scored 50 and the visitors declared on 256-5.

Park were on 216-8 at stumps. Chris Davies hit a useful 63 whilst Neil Cross for Wallasey finished with 6-60.

Birkenhead St Mary's claimed the Division Two derby at Caldy by five runs. Key players for the Saints were bowlers Zaighum Abbas with 5-17 and Mike Bowe 4-38. Haroon Khan and Dave Kay took three wickets apiece for the losers.

A knock of 67 by Kamran Hussein could not save Parkfield Liscard who lost by seven wickets against visiting Alder.

It was not a good day for the local clubs in the Cheshire County League. Neston lost by five wickets at Alderley Edge in the Premier Division and Oxton crashed away to Nantwich by ten wickets. There were also defeats for Upton and Irby in Division Two.

Dane Williams helped himself to 53 for Neston but their 156 total after being asked to bat first proved to be inadequate.

Oxton were all out for a meagre 88 with Marc de Brabander offering best resistence on 23.

Upton were put in at Weaverham and totalled just 68 with Chris Stowell-Smkith best on 28. The home side cruised to victory with time to spare.

Irby totalled 170 at Warrington but the Lancashire outfit passed the score for the loss of four wickets.
