A SPLENDID unbeaten century by Luke Proctor which included fifteen fours and a six helped New Brighton to a 143 runs victory over Southport & Birkdale in the Premier Division of the Liverpool & District Competition.

Louis Botes, 65, and John White, 54, also batted well while the bowler in form was Andrew Clarke with 5-42.

Birkenhead Park saw off Leigh by 47 runs. Rob Houghton was key with 51 and a 5-30 return. Mike Barnes contributed 53.

Wallasey won a tense affair at Northern by one wicket. The home side was restricted to a 127 total with the bowlers to do the damage being Chris Bourne 5-50 and Lahiru Wellalege 5-44.

It looked ominous for Wallasey as wickets fell but Bourne batting at number eight and number 11 Andrew Beaver saw them home with a 14 runs partnership. Bourne finished undefeated on 37.

Parkfield Liscard just missed out in a tense Division Two match against Old Xaverians. Matt Keogh with 5-39 helped restrict Xavs to 112 but the home side was then put out one run short.

Akmal Ghafoor with an unbeaten half century batted well for the combined outfit.

Birkenhead St Mary’s lost by 165 runs at Spring View. They were dismissed for 77 after the home side who were asked to bat first posted 242-5.

Caldy were also losers by 49 runs at Skelmersdale where Brynley Richards returned 5-39.

Neston had to settle for a draw at Toft in the Premier Division of the Cheshire County League. They closed 23 runs behind with two wickets intact.

Form players for Neston were Luke Camden 93, Dane Williams 47 and Ash Davies 5-68.

Oxton lost by 103 runs at Alderley Edge. Marc de Branbander 40 and Guyan Fernando 4-94 did best for the losers.

Irby won but Upton lost in Division Two.

Upton went down by five wickets at Alvanley. Matt Ingram top scored with 77 and Darren Warburton hit 48.

Irby made it by three wickets at Northwich. Kegisho Pedi played a big part with 6-44 whilst the best bats on the day were Mike Newman 48 and Greg Shillinglaw 44.

Parkonians edge home by one wicket against Ellesmere Port in Division One of the Cheshire Alliance. Adam Westwater with 8- 25 was the match winner.

Tranmere Vics in Division Two comfortably beat visiting Heaton Mersey by eight wickets.

Eastham Bromborough whipped visiting Mere by 196 runs in Division Three. Ian Corner jnr hit 66 and Gary Corner a half century.

Successful bowlers on the day were Richard Smith with 5-10 and Russ Williams 4-22.

There are a couple of local derbies in the Liverpool and District Competition this Saturday.

Wallasey meet New Brighton at The Oval in the Premier Division while in Division Two Caldy welcome Parkfield Liscard to Paton Field.

Other competition fixtures include Birkenhead Park v Bootle and Birkenhead St Mary’s v Prestatyn.

Neston against Alderley Edge and Oxton against Nantwich have home fixtures in the Premier Division of the Cheshire County League.

In Division Two there are also home dates for Irby v Warrington and Upton v Weaverham.

Ellesmere Port and Port Sunlight meet in Division One of the Cheshire Alliance with Old Parkonians due at Wistaston Village.

Division Two matches include a Maritime v Tranmere Vics derby while in Division Three Eastham Bromborough are due at Old Parkonians seconds.

Wirral visit Pott Shrigley in Division Three of the Cheshire League.
