IT was good to see a much bigger turnout at this Sunday's Flyers Tournament in Birkenhead - maybe it was the extra hour in bed - and the bowlers enjoyed a fine sunny morning.

When Gladstone's Ray Lynch reached the final he must have been hoping to repeat his success of the previous week but New Brighton Quarry Viking's John Harrison clearly had other ideas and a scintillating display from the player who comes over from Liverpool each week saw him take his first victory of this session.

In the quarter finals Harrison beat the consistent Joe Edwards of Gladstone and he then played really well to beat a previous winner Tixall's Anthony O'Neill in his semi final match.

Meanwhile Lynch proved to be a little too good for Colin Portis of Levers in his quarter final match and then in the semi final he just pipped Cammell Lairds Peter Holian in a rematch of last week's final.

Harrison produced an outstanding performance in the final and try as hard as he could Lynch could not prevent Harrison from taking the top prize.

Some consolation for Lynch is that he now heads the points table.

Results: R. Lynch (Gladstone) 21, C. Portis (Levers) 15; P. Holian (Cammell Lairds) 21, R. Jamieson (Heswall RBL) 16, J. Harrison (New Brighton Quarry Vikings) 21, J. Edwards (Gladstone) 17; A. O'Neill (Tixall) 21, R. Marshall 13.
