IT was disappointment for the Birkenhead and District Parks team on Sunday.

Despite a good win against Cumbria in their final match, in which they got 18 points, this was not enough to enable them to qualify for the semi-finals.

They had eight winners in the home match at Albany, with James Motley's 21-08 the best result and overall had a 216-192 victory.

Away at Lansil they had five winners, with three being Jordan McDermott, 21-06, Brian Somerville, 21-07 and Nigel Hughes, 21-09, but the team suffered a narrow loss going down 204 to 200.

Wirral ladies team suffered a narrow loss to North Shropshire on Sunday.

They won the home match by 25 shots in West Kirby, but unfortunately lost by 37 in the away leg.

In the away match, best results were Glynis Lomax and Margaret Vickers who both had 21-12 wins.

Wallasey Association's Veterans Tournament was played on Sunday and the winner was New Brighton Queens Royal's Dave Gilmore who battled his way to claim his third title on the run beating Manor Road's Carl Cumming in the final.

At 19-13 in the final, Cummings looked to be heading for victory but Gilmore fought back and clawed his way to a narrow 21-20 win.

In Wallasey Association's Sheppick Cup Final at Manor Road on Saturday New Brighton Quarry Vikings 'B' team defeated Queens by 18 shots.

The Quarry overhauled a 12-0 shot handicap to record a 223-205 winning scoreline.

For Quarry Vikings the match- winning scores were Paul Partridge, 21-04, Phil Hale, 21-06, and Trevor Barraclough, 21-08.

For Queens, Dave Bayne top-scored with a 21-13 win.

Merseyside Veterans went to Kendall to play in the qualifying round of this year's County Veterans Knockout Tournament and are through to next month's final.

All the team did well, but Higher Tranmere Vets' Peter Hammond was the star winning all three of his games.

The Juniors Richard Evans Memorial Junior Competition takes place on Saturday at the Cammell Lairds Club.

Competitors should arrive for 11am.
