THE final of the McParland Williams Tixall Classic last Monday was a re-run of the recent New Brighton Classic with yet again Tixall's Matthew Gilmore meeting Warrington’s Damien Morrison - and yet again it was the local player, Gilmore, who came through to take the first prize.

In the quarter-finals Gilmore had a close win against Dean Butler of Accrington to go through to meet his club mate Nigel Hughes in the semi-final.

Hughes played well but he could not prevent Gilmore from reaching the final.

In his quarter-final match Morrison had beaten another Tixall player, Robert Rogers, and he then had a real nail biter before just clinching a 21-20 win in the semis against Steve Freer who had made the journey up from Birmingham.

The final in New Brighton was very close but this time Gilmore dominated the match and he had a convincing 21-10 win.
