IT WAS not the best of days for the Wallasey Association’s Federation team in their match against close rivals Colne Valley on Sunday.

They tied the home match at West Kirby Victoria's green in Ashton Park, both teams having six winners and each scoring 206 points, but they lost the away game on a difficult Crossland Moor green in Huddersfield.

This meant the overall result was Colne Valley 22 Wallasey 10.

In the home match, Ian Hazlehurst top scored with a 21-10 win, while in the away match the team had three winners, two of them to single figures, Colin Saville winning 21-05 and Matthew Gilmore winning 21-08.

Lynsey Gorman and Anita Richardson won the Mavis Dearden Pairs for the third successive year thanks to a victory over Linda Howard and Marg Lewis in the final, played at Upton Victory Hall.

They beat Ella Kennady and Sally Povall in the quarters before squeezing past Sue Lewis and Hazel Morgan in the semi final.

Howard and Lewis came through a tough match in their quarter final before having a more comfortable win in the semis against Carole Dunn and Marg Ratcliffe.


Semi Finals: Linda Howard and Marg Lewis 21, Carole Dunn and Marg Ratcliffe 08; Lynsey Gorman and Anita Richardson 21, Sue Lewis and Hazel Morgan 18.

Final: Gorman and Richardson 21, Howard and Lewis 14.

In the final of the Wallasey Association’s Presidents Cup at Manor Road green last Saturday, West Kirby Victoria from the first division overwhelmed Division 2 leaders Hoylake Central 'B' to take a comfortable 61 point victory. For West Kirby Jamie Fitzpatrick top scored with a 21-03 win.

The final of the Birkenhead and Wirral Afternoon League’s Shield Tournament between Higher Tranmere Vets and the Magazine club was played on Friday at Oxton Conservative Club.

The Magazine fourth division team were given an 85-point start, but their first division opponents won all ten games to retain the trophy.

In the final of the Birkenhead and Wirral Evening League's Cec Hannay Rose Bowl on Thingwall's green saw Oxton Conservative Club beat Tixall, who couldn't overcome a 48 point handicap, 243-226.

For Oxton Peter Jones had the best result winning 21-11.
