PUPILS from four Wirral schools have returned victorious from a gymnastics championship in Wigan.

They took part in a North West Schools Competition at Robin Park, Wigan, on February 7 and picked up a number of medals.

Sophie Everson and Dan Edwards, both from Hilbre High School in Newton, won gold in the under 19s tumbling as well as gold in their mixed pair becoming Northwest champions in three disciplines.

Matthew Mulholland, from St Mary's College in Wallasey, came second in the under 13s tumbling, with both Lauren Gallagher from St Alban's Primary and Adam Jones (Liscard Primary) finishing second in the under 11s tumbling.

The winning team will represent the North West Schools at the British Schools National Finals at Fenton Manor, Stoke in May.

Ella Connor and Nicole McLaughlin won silver in the under 11s pairs just missing out on a place in the final with Isobel Simpson and Lauren Gallagher and Chloe Williams and Adam Jones finishing fourth in their under 11s pairs categories.

The group six team representing Liscard Primary came fourth, just missing out on a medal.

The gymnasts all train at Wallasey Gymnastics Club.
