ON a day of sunshine and showers Heswall's Dave McDermott became the latest player to win the Sunday Flyers on his first visit of this session on the greens in Arrowe Park on Sunday when he beat West Kirby Victoria's Bill Atkinson in the final.

In his quarter-final game he only just got the better of Nigel Hughes in a tremendous tussle but he then proved to be too good on the day for the runaway leader of the points table Eddie Dutton.

Meanwhile Atkinson had a comfortable win against his team mate Robbie Fitzpatrick in the quarters before beating the reliable Tommy Walker in the semi final.

In the final McDermott was always in charge and in the lead until a late rally by Atkinson took him within touching distance of his first win before a superb final shot by McDermott clinched victory by 21 shots to 19.

Results: Quarter Finals: E. Dutton 21, J. Fitzpatrick 18; D. McDermott 21, N. Hughes 20; T. Walker 21, S. Scott 14; W. Atkinson 21, R. Fitzpatrick 10.

Semi Finals: McDermott 21, Dutton 11; Atkinson 21, Walker 16. Final: McDermott 21, Atkinson 19.

Next week is the last opportunity for players to gain enough points to finish in the top sixteen of the points table and enable them to enter the final tournament of the session on Sunday, December 20.
