A DAUNTING visit to league leaders Stafford Town in the North West Counties First Division South resulted in a 5-0 defeat for Cammell Laird 1907 FC.
Despite competing well throughout the fixture Lairds, were undone by some swift passing moves than began in the 15th minute as Patryk Mazurakiewicz put the home side ahead and although they battled to stay in the game they were undone again in the 45th minute as Josh Wilson made it 2-0 following a flowing move.
Straight from the restart Town increased their advantage as Matt Hearsey bagged a brace in the 46th and 48th minutes to leave Lairds with an uphill task, which was beyond them as Jayden Hunter completed the victory with a fifth goal in the 74th minute, as Lairds succumbed to a 0-5 defeat in a day to forget.
Next up is a difficult Macron Cup fixture away at Eccleshall on Wednesday evening with a 7.45pm kick off, followed by another difficult league fixture at home versus second placed Alsager Town with a 3pm kick off.
Lairds Reserves claimed three more points at home versus a well organised Aintree Villa Reserves who gave Lairds a hard contest, but the finishing power of Lairds enabled them to secure a 3-0 success at the final whistle. This was due to top scorer Kieran Hughes opening the scoring late in the first half and Josh Hulmstone and Leo Patten adding a goal each to keep them in sixth position in the second division of the West Cheshire League. No fixture for next week as their cup match has been postponed.
A goal apiece from Kyle McGregor and Jack Gordon enables Lairds U-23's to gain a valuable draw away to Rainhill Town reserves in the West Cheshire League third division in this end-to-end encounter that ended 2-2. They now play Heswall U-23's away on Saturday, October 5.
