CAMMELL Laird 1907 FC travelled to Barnton FC in the hope of regaining winning ways, but despite plenty of possession against beatable opposition they came away empty handed.

Early exchanges saw Lairds taking the initiative and forcing the home keeper into two excellent saves. One from a Matty Beaman header which was tipped over and minutes later a great volley from captain Ryan Smith which was pushed around the post.

But in a breakaway on 23 minutes, a blatant foul on Josh Henry-Reid went unpunished and Matthew Williams raced clear to give the home team a 1-0 lead against the run of play which they maintained until the half time break.

The second period was a very even affair but the only shot on goal came in the 63rd minute as Lee Turkington beat the offside trap to fire low past the diving Will Ebbrell.

The remainder of the game was an end to end battle, but lack of fire power cost Lairds dearly and they succumbed to a disappointing 2-0 defeat, leaving them goalless in the last three outings and standing eighth in the table.

Next up is a home fixture at the KRCT Stadium on Saturday 14th versus league newcomers Allscott Heath with a 3pm kick off.

Two penalty awards were drilled home by Josh Hulmestone for Lairds reserves as they progressed in the Cheshire FA Amateur cup when beating a Crewe FC side 4-1 in a great team performance that also saw Kieran Hughes and Adam Larway find the net.

Lairds U-23's also had a good result when overcoming AFC Knowsley 2-1 thanks to a brace of goals from Myles Arnott, with one being a penalty as they remained in the top six of the West Cheshire League 3rd Division, but only two points behind the leaders. Neither the U-23's or the reserves have a fixture next week.
