CAMMELL Laird 1907 FC suffered their first defeat of the season in midweek when wasting a 3-0 lead away to Sandbach United.

Lairds had looked certain to gain three points as goals from Jamie Eaton (5mins) Ryan Smith (26) and Kieran Hamm on 41 minutes had them well in command.

But in a fixture marred by indiscipline and strange officiating they were undone after the break as United levelled in the 88th minute and then claimed the points in the 95th minute of the six extra minutes added to the game.

On Saturday, Lairds entertained Cheadle Heath Nomads who showed to be a very competent passing team who gave the home defence some worrying moments, as Lairds seemed content to attack on the break.

The goalless first half saw a bad injury for Jack Davies who looked to have dislocated his shoulder, which added to the injury list of Ben Wood, Danny Stevens, Cameron McGregor and then Ben Graham, who also suffered an injury, forced Lairds to play with a makeshift back four for the remainder of the game.

However, Lairds began the second period in fine fashion as a great move between Joe Caswell, Jack Darlington and Haydn Cooper saw the latter nutmeg the keeper in the 50th minute with a fine goal to take the lead.

Yet again chances were created on a regular basis but were also wasted and Lairds were punished in the 92nd minute as Nomads broke away and punished a hesitant defence with substitute Alex Hay levelling the score to claim a share of the spoils in a game that should have been won with ease.

Next up for Lairds is a difficult away fixture on Tuesday evening away to the division's leaders Alsager Town.

The injury crisis was also felt by the reserves as Jayden Jones suffered a broken fibula, dislocated ankle and ligament damage which resulted in the fixture away to West Kirby Reserves being abandoned with the score 0-0 at the time.

Better news for Lairds came from the U-23 team as they dispatched Great Sutton in a 6-0 victory as Jack Gordon bagged a hat-trick, with Myles Arnott adding a double and Brandon Gordon completed the rout in a great team effort that sees them in the top six of the West Cheshire League Third Division.
