CAMMELL Laird 1907 FC travelled to new league boys Shawbury United and claimed a 3-0 victory despite not producing recent performances, but were deserving of the three points in a hard-working display that saw Matty Beaman netting a superb back post header, writes Tom Potter.

Playing a rather hard surface so early in the season Lairds had the better of exchanges the first half but had to wait until the 40th minute to open their account which came via a deflected effort that resulted in an own goal for a half time lead.

The second period saw an improved Lairds as they created some good openings, but until Matty Beaman headed home at the far post in the 73rd minute, chances were wasted. However, with the introduction of substitutes and the driving force of captain Ryan Smith saw Jack Darlington put through on goal and finish in fine style to secure a 3-0 success and retain Lairds unbeaten start to the campaign.

Next up for Lairds are Sandbach United away on Tuesday (August 13) with a 7.45pm kick off. Then home to Cheadle Heath Nomads on Saturday (August 17) with a 3pm kick off.

Lairds reserves suffered a rare defeat at the hands of Higher Beb Kelma in the second fixture in the West Cheshire League Second division, but will learn from this experience and hopefully get back on track when they entertain early leaders Mallaby tomorrow (Tuesday, August 13) at the KRCT Stadium with a 7pm kick off.
