TRANMERE Rovers FC have announced that the club will open a boys’ football training and match programme for young players.

From September 2024, players will train twice a week on Tuesday and Thursdays and play fixtures on Saturdays. In addition to this, the elevated games programme will see players compete against local academies and international touring teams in matches throughout the season.

Players will also have the ability to continue to play and train with their local grassroots teams alongside the club’s provision. All home games and training sessions will take place at the first team training ground, The Campus in Leasowe.

A spokesperson for Rovers said: "All players will receive a high-quality football education experience centred around the FA’s 4 Corner Model which helps players to develop tactical and technically, socially, physically and psychologically.  This modern-day approach to coaching was developed by the FA when our Chairman was the CEO.

"It is the club’s firm belief that this offering will enhance the football provision for young players in Wirral as well as provide an early insight to the training methods used in our under-19 teams in recent seasons, which saw Sam Taylor progress all the way to the first team squad."

Whilst no longer part of the Premier League's Elite Player Performance Plan (EPPP), Rovers have taken the decision to adopt a model similar to that of other clubs based on a ‘pay to play’ structure which provides young players the opportunity to be coached by UEFA qualified coaches in line with the club’s development model whilst playing competitive and friendly fixtures as part of its games programme.

The model will be phased in over the next two years, starting this season with players in both under-14 and under-15 age groups, with the aim to have groups the following season from under-12 through to under-16 inclusive.

Trial information will be published shortly along with details of how players and parents can register their interest for the coming season.
