It was curtains also for strongly fancied Newton, who went down 3-1 to Vauxhall Motors Res.

In the Wirral DFA Amateur Cup quarter finals, Division Three promotion challengers, Cammell Laird 1907 Res, accounted for Division Two promotion chasers, Hooton, with Ben Crossley and Luke Burns finding the net in a 2-1 victory. Hooton replied via Charlie McInnes.

Efforts from Matty Hickman and Tom Sixsmith assured Capenhurst Villa Res. of a place in the last four after they eclipsed Sutton Rangers 2-0 and it was celebration time for Neston Nomads Res. who went through after winning 4-0 at Ellesmere Port Town U23s.

On the domestic scene, Division One leaders Maghull, had Robbie McDonald (2) and Darren Brannigan on target, but forfeited ground following a 3-3 stalemate with Aintree Villa who earned a share of the spoils thanks to goals from Jamie Alty, Sam Dahl and Aiden Webb.

Nearest rivals, Mossley Hill Ath., duly took advantage and romped home 6-0 against Ashville Res. inspired by doubles from Connor Anderson and Paul Pearson. Further goals from Caleb Jones and Owen Cassidy completed the score line.

Dillon Thomas struck twice and was joined on the scoresheet by Josh Ross as reigning champions, Mersey Royal, climbed to eighth place in the table, following a 3-2 decision over Capenhurst Villa who had Steve Rowlands and Nathan Lightfoot in reply.

Division Two pacesetters, South Liverpool Res. , increased their advantage at the top to six points when efforts from Simon McClay, Harvey Billington and Yusuf Moshin secured a fine 3-1 win at fifth placed Runcorn Sports, who responded through Ryan Burnell.

West Kirby's marksmen in a 3-0 verdict over Mossley Ath. U23's were Dave McDermott, Joel Kelly and Josh Abbott.

Consistent performers, Rainhill Town Res., stayed on course for promotion from Division Three, Cam Ramsay (2) Luke Daly and Chris Sheehan sharing the goals in a 4-1 victory at Groves Ath., who had Jack Rigby on the mark, while Tom Brady's hat trick sparked Helsby Res.'  3-1 win over Great Sutton. Liam McCrellis netted the visitors' consolation.

It was a day to forget for Poulton Vics who scored through Leon Clarke but capitulated 5-1 at home to replies from Runcorn Sports Res.'  James O'Connor, Steve Butler, Reece Jones, Mike Hindley and Ethan Hansen.

Likewise, Frodsham Park JFC had Mike Peters on target, but lost 2-1 to goals from Heswall U'23's Louis  Stanhope and Dale Morris.

In the Youth Division, fourth placed Cammell Laird 1907 celebrated their sixth win of the season as Theo McDowell's hat trick and an effort from Bobby Barker anchoring their side to a 4-2 result over Litherland Remyca, whose response was provided by two goal Dylan Riley.

Bragging rights in the South Wirral derby went to Neston Nomads, who overcame Vauxhall Motors highlighted by a Jack Coll hat trick in Saturday's 4-2 victory. Jude Francis was Nomads' other marksman with Luca De Sousa and Jake Parry finding the net for Motors.
