FORMER Tranmere striker Jake Burton has signed for Chester FC on a one-year deal.

Burton, who was released by Rovers at the end of last season, first arrived at Prenton Park aged 11 and progressed through Rovers’ Academy. He made his first team debut for the club in a 2–1 defeat to Leicester City in the 2019/20 EFL Trophy and signed his first professional contract in July 2020.

He made his EFL debut in October 2020, before scoring four goals in two separate loan spells at Stalybridge Celtic.

Burton joined Marine at the start of last season, scoring twice before being recalled in August 2022 – bagging his first senior goal for Tranmere in a 2-0 victory over Colchester United in his first game back.

In total he made 10 senior appearances for Tranmere, scoring two goals.

Burton has featured as a trialist for Chester on three occasions for during pre-season, getting on the scoresheet in the 7-0 win at Ashton Athletic. He will wear the number 27 shirt at the Deva.

Manager, Calum McIntyre, said: “Jake is someone we have been speaking to throughout the summer and I’m pleased we have got him on board after he’s spent some time in our environment in recent weeks.

“We are really happy with the business we did early on in the summer period and to have added a fourth player to our group that was playing higher up the pyramid last season is really pleasing.

“We have recognised areas that we can strengthen and improve, just as we did last season, and when the right players are available and the timing is right we will continue to improve.

“This may not conclude our business, we have a target in mind, but I am delighted with the squad we have assembled.”
