NEW Brighton are propping up the Love Lane Liverpool Competition Premier Division after a heavy defeat to Southport and Birkdale at Trafalgar Road.

The visitors looked well in the game after reducing the hosts to 40-3 but a century from Jack Carney (139no) sterred S&B to 242-4 by the time they declared. New Brighton were then bowled out for 123 in a 119 run loss.

Wallasey's title defence continues to falter with a defeat at home to Wigan. Sumit Ruikar top scored with 66 as the hosts declared on 220-8 off 54.4 overs. Greg Beaver claimed 3-39 but Aaron Redmond's side chased the target down for the loss of six wickets.

Birkenhead Park are flying in Division One and recorded their 13th consecutive win in all competitions with a thrilling victory at Bootle. Opener Mark Rowland hit 80 before valuable contributions from Steve Hird (60no) and Alex Harris (49) took Park to 239-7 declared. David Nevin (4-53) and Harris (3-40) then combined to dismiss Bootle 12 runs short of the target.

Caldy made it back to back wins with an eight wicket victory ovber St Helens Town. Three wickets apiece for Adam Brown (3-25), Asiri Gamage (3-31) and Sachin Kumar Singh (3-8) saw Town dismissed for 97 before Calsy sealed an easy triumph. 

In Division Two, Ashen Daluwattage took 6-47 for Parkfield Liscard as they bowled out Sutton for 154. Gayan De Silva top scored with 41 but the hosts were bowled out for 118 and remain bottom.

Irby are a place above their Wirral neighbours after a five wicket defeat at home to Alder. Smit Mehta hit 66 for the hosts as they reached 138 all out but the visitors reached the target in the 42nd over.
