LACHE Vets secured a superb cup double over the Bank Holiday weekend.

In the Pele Vets Challenge Cup final, Lache accounted for FC Farndon Vets after Warren Kelly bagged a double and was joined on the scoresheet by Jim Lehman and Nick Whittaker.

Just two days later and in scorching heat, Lache took on Division One big hitters Hooton Vets in the CWFL Doug Johnson Vets Cup. In what turned out to be a classic, ace marksman Kelly netted another hat-trick as Lache led 1-0, 2-1 and 3-2 but Hooton hit back three times through a JP Stanhope double and a Lee Dunbar effort to take to game to penalties. Amazingly all 11 outfield players took a penalty with Lache eventually winning 10-9 which resulted in wild celebrations for Andrew Dutton’s men.

Blacon Youth Reserves gained revenge for their League Cup defeat against Black Horse by lifting the CWFL Life Members Cup as Danny Davies bagged a brace to go with goals from Aaron Rowlands and Robbie Joinson as Blacon secured a 4-1 victory and make it a league and cup double for Aaron Price's team.

In the Tom Gerraghty Vets cup, Third Division Frodsham Park Vets, who finished bottom, travelled to the home of unbeaten third division champions Neston Nomads Vets. And Frodsham showed that in cup finals league form means nothing as Joseph Morphet headed them into the lead with the last touch of the first half. Neston struck back with 10 minutes remaining but over 90 minutes Frodsham put in a brilliant team performance to frustrate the champions and take the game to penalties, eventually winning the shoot-out in sudden death 5-4. The CWFL would like to say a huge thanks to sponsors Tarvin Precision LTD, Queensferry Sports and Olympic Trophies. If anyone would like to sponsor any more of the league's cups, or top scorers list next season then please email Bernie Holmes on berniholmes@hotmail.co.uk
