ON a day when few games of rugby where played in the North of England deu to freezing condition, Wirral travelled to Burnage in Regional 1 North West to play on their 4G pitch, even though there was snow in the surrounding fields.
The Wirral forwards were very dominant in the first half, with the team running in four tries to gain their bonus point.
The scorers were James Reeve, Tom Akehurst, Chris Crowley and Hayden Long.
Dan Harvey converted three of the tries to give Wirral a 26-0 lead at half-time.
In the second half though, Burnage played with greater determination and, after Wirral’s fifth try by Stuart Gratton, the home side scored through Alex Evans.
The final move of the game saw Harvey put in Jacob Mitchell for a try which was also converted as the game finished 38-5 to the visitors.
The scoreline was something of a shock after Wirral had only just squeezed home for a close win when they played Burnage earlier in the season.
n Next Saturday is the Wirralians’ last home game of 2022 when they play Northwich with a 2.15pm kick-off.
