WALLASEY stretched their lead at the top of the Love Lane Liverpool Competition Premier League to 68 points after beating Wigan.

It was another match-winning performance from Sumit Ruikar who hit 87 as the hosts posted 231-5 with Greg Beaver chipping in with an unbeaten 52. Ruikar then claimed 6-87 alongside Chris Bourne (3-35) as Wigan were dismissed for 152.

New Brighton won a crucial clash at the bottom of the table as they beat fellow strugglers Southport and Birkdale in a thriller at Trafalgar Road.

The visitors recovered from 4-2 to make 171 all out with David While (34) top scoring. While then put in a brilliant spell with the ball taking 6-65 as he and Elliot Griffiths (4-76) bowled out the hosts for 159.

Birkenhead Park stretched their winning streak to nine in a row with a five wicket victory at Ormskirk. Skipper Tom Foster (3-38) helped restrict the home side to 209-9 before Mark Rowland (51) led a successful chase.

Caldy are bottom of Division One after a heavy defeat at Fleetwood Hesketh. Chris Edwards (4-42) and Martyn Evans (3-33) did well with the ball but the Wirral outfit’s batters could only make 83 in reply to 145.

Parkfield Liscard’s relegation from the competition was confirmed as they fell to their 15th defeat of the season at promotion-chasing St Helens Town in Division Two. The host’s total of 107 all out was never enough as Town chased it down for the loss of three wickets.

In the Cheshire Cricket League there was a win for Wirral in their Division One clash with Knutsford.

Old Parkonians maintained their winning streak making it eight wins on the bounce at Aston with an unbeaten 70 from Nathan Bradshaw and 6-21 for Tim Berkson the highlights of a six wickets win that keeps them top of Division Two.

Irby lost at Middlewich by nine wickets.
