VAUXHALL Motors crashed out of this season’s FA Cup after a 2-0 defeat at Whitchurch Alport.

2022 marks 20 years since The Motormen famously beat QPR in the First Round of the competition but there will sadly be no repeat of that side’s heroics with Mick McGraa’s men exiting at the Extra Preliminary stage this time around.

The visitors created some first half chances but the Alport keeper remained relatively untested and his side took the lead on the half hour when a brilliant ball from the left caught the Motors defence napping and Alex Hughes found space to bury the ball past the keeper.

A minute before the break, the hosts doubled their lead when Ben Holmes left the referee with no option other than to award a spot kick with Hughes stepping up to score his second.

Jordan Deer was gifted a perfect opportunity to reduce the arrears early into the second half, but his shot struck the keeper’s legs.

After the game, McGraa said “Today was one game too far for us and we couldn’t be expected to be fully fit after Thursday night’s league game at Lower Breck.”

Vauxhall Motors travel to Irlam on Saturday as they return to action in the North West Counties Premier Division.
