TRANMERE Rovers have confirmed the signing of goalkeeper Ross Doohan for an undisclosed fee from Celtic.

The gloveman helped Rovers earn 21 clean sheets in League Two last season, the joint best in the division, whilst on loan at Prenton Park, and now signs a two year contract with the club with a further one year option.

The 24-year-old has been at Scottish side Celtic since 2016 and has enjoyed various loan spells in his native country before gaining vital experience with Rovers last season and impressing throughout the campaign.

Ross now pens a contract at Prenton Park until at least the summer of 2024 and will join up with the rest of the squad for start of the 2022/23 season.

After returning to Rovers, Doohan, said: “I’m really pleased to get it all sorted now. I really enjoyed it here last season so I feel this is a great step in my career.”

“I know how the club works and the stature of it with the training facilities, the stadium and the fan base. Having a great relationship with the gaffer and with Joe Murphy was another big factor for me.

“I didn’t take much convincing at all, as soon as I heard that there was interest I wanted to come back. I can’t wait to get going again.”

Manager Micky Mellon added: “We’re delighted to bring Ross in permanently. He’s a fantastic young goalkeeper and someone who we know very well.

“We know what qualities he can bring to the group and we believe that he can keep improving and developing here with us. We’re really looking forward to working with him again.”
