WALLASEY’S grip on the summit of the Love Lane Liverpool Competition Premier Division is beginning to look insurmountable after they completed a seventh win of the season.

Danny Beaver led from the front with the opener finishing on 100 not out with good support from Josh Rylance (66) as Wallasey declared on 232-4 off 44 overs at Southport and Birkdale’s Trafalgar Road ground. Sumit Ruikar was then thrown the ball and continued his stunning form with 7-54 as the hosts were bundled out for 133.

New Brighton registered their second league win of the campaign after a fine run chase against Leigh. Matthew Thompson (3-46) was the pick of the bowlers as the visitors decked on 236- 6 off 52 overs before Adam Neal (62) and Sebastian Botes (45) ensured a five wicket victory.

Birkenhead Park are in the bottom two after a draw at Wigan. Park opener Michael Barnes struck 112 with half-centuries from Tom Foster (52) and Ahmad Safi Abdullah (50) allowing the visitors to reach 267-7 off 54 overs. A decent chase followed but Abdullah (4-75) and Ashraf Nawab (4-65) reduced the hosts to 232-9 as the hosts clung on.

Caldy are rooted to the bottom of Division One after a ninth defeat of the season to Highfield. The visitors declared on 227-5 off 50 overs which proved too much for the hosts who were dismissed for 124.

Parkfield Liscard remain the only side across the competition without a win after another heavy defeat to Alder who skittled the visitors for 99 before completing a seven wicket win.

In Division One of the Cheshire Cricket League Wirral lost a run-fest at Over Peover who posted 312-5 off their 45 overs before the visitors replied with 228-5. David Lewis (58), Andy Slight (64no) and Asif Ghulam (57) hit half-centuries.

Division Two saw a win for Irby over Woodford with Tranmere Vics losing to Styal in Division Three.
