THE game of the day in the Love Lane Liverpool Competition Premier Division between leaders Wallasey and reigning champions Northern ended in stalemate.

The hosts had been in big trouble at 97 for nine before Jack Leckey (50no) and Chris Bourne (23) put on 64 for the last wicket allowing Wallasey to post a competitive total. Another five-wicket haul for Sumit Ruikar (5-61) ensured the visitors had to settle for the draw after closing on 126 for eight.

New Brighton are in the bottom two after a narrow defeat at Rainhill, who declared on 190 for nine with David While (4-40) the pick of the bowlers. 88 from opener Owais Shah kept the visitors in contention but they were eventually bowled out for 178.

Birkenhead Park drew with Formby in a run fest at Park Drive. Centuries from Calum Turner (111) and Sam Oldham (135) allowed the visitors to deck on 264 for three before the hosts closed on 208 for eight with Tom Foster finishing unbeaten on 64.

Caldy remain rooted to the bottom of Division One despite a decent performance against high-flying Liverpool at Aigburth. The hosts declared on 241 for six off 48.2 overs but 78 from Mark Wilkie and 51 from Corne Nel ensured a close finish as the visitors were bowled out for 226.

In Division Two, Parkfield Liscard are still without a win after a heavy home defeat to Norley Hall. Rasun Gamage took 4-61 for the hosts as the away team declared on 230 for five before the Wirral outfit were skittled for just 109.

On Sunday, Wallasey advanced into the fourth round of the Royal London Club Championships with a win over Premier League rivals Leigh. An opening partnership of 85 in 12.5 overs set the hosts on their way to reaching 205 for eight off their 40 overs with Daniel Beaver hitting 54. Greg Beaver then took 4-18 as Leigh were dismissed for 159.
