TRANMERE Rovers have confirmed the signing of defender Ethan Bristow from Reading on a two-year contract

The 20-year-old signed his first professional contract in 2019 for the Berkshire side and has been a consistent performer in the Premier League 2 for The Royals picking up the Player of the Month award in January.

His performances earned Bristow a starting place in Reading’s first game of the Championship season against Stoke and then another seven first team appearances in league and cup throughout last season.

After signing at Prenton Park, Bristow said: “I’m really happy to be here. As soon as I heard of the interest, I was keen to come to Tranmere and I did some research. The stadium, the training ground and particularly playing in front of the fans excites me.

“I’m very attacking, I’m agile and I like to use my pace to get past players so being able to get up and down the pitch is my strongest attribute.

“I’m raring to go and have been doing my own bits of work to hit the ground running so I can’t wait to get going now.”

Rovers manager, Micky Mellon, said: “We’re really pleased to bring Ethan to the club. He’s a young and hungry player who wants to develop and show his qualities.

“He’s got experience of playing in the Championship and we’re really looking forward to working with him and seeing him progress. He’s a player with lots of energy. A good size and he likes to attack and use his pace which are all positive qualities to have and will benefit us.”

Sporting Director, James Vaughan said: " I'm delighted to add Ethan to the squad. He fits the profile that we want at this club. Whilst he's another young player and, although we already have quite a number of games " in the bank" with the squad we have, we recognise the need to achieve a balance of experience and youth within the group and we continue to explore this aspect ."
