WALLASEY extended their lead at the top of the Love Lane Liverpool Competition Premier Division after beating New Brighton at Rake Lane coupled with defeats for their main rivals.

An unbeaten 51 from Greg Beaver along with contributions from Josh Rylance (42) and Daniel Beaver (47) allowed the visitors to declare on 190 for six off 44 overs. A half century from David While (51) took New Brighton to within touching distance of the target but Sumit Ruikar’s six for 75 ensured a 17 run victory for the leaders who are 24 points clear of Northern in second place.

Birkenhead Park drew with Rainhill in a clash between the division’s bottom two. The visitors decked on 178 for nine with Park’s Ashraf Nawab (3-45) and Alex Baker (3-50) the pick of the bowlers. The hosts’s reply got off to a great start thanks to opener Michael Barnes (48) but the chase fizzled out as they closed on 137 for eight.

Caldy are rooted to the bottom of Division One after a heavy defeat to Spring View despite bowling the visitors out for just 118. The modest target proved too much with Caldy skittled for 67.

In Division Two there was more bad news for bottom side Parkfield Liscard who were forced to concede their game at Prestatyn after they failed to raise a side.

Division One of the Cheshire Cricket League saw Wirral win by nine wickets against Waverham after Ian Mahers (4-10) and Razi Khan (3-21) dismissed the visitors for 77.

Irby’s Division Two fixture ended with 15 points going to the Wirral outfit after Aston conceded.

Tranmere Victoria suffered a 19 run defeat in their Division Three clash with Burton despite Tejpal Singh (4-11) and Charlie Chatterton (3-30) combining to dismiss the visitors for 107. Alex Bristow (25) top scored for Vics but it was in vain as they were dismissed for 88.
