TRANMERE Rovers have announced their first summer signing with the capture of Ben Hockenhull on a two year contract.

The defender came through the ranks at Manchester United before signing for Brentford in July 2020 and became an imposing figure at the heart of Brentford’s B team, a team renowned for developing young talent.

Upon signing the contract, Hockenhull, 20, said: “I’m buzzing to be here. I’ve seen in the past how young players have developed here and improved so I want to do the same.

“I want to keep building and become a better player. I’m a ball playing centre half and I want to play in front of big crowds which is something I feel I can do here. I’m looking forward to it.”

Manager Micky Mellon said: “We’re really pleased to add Ben to the group. He is a player who we see real potential in, a player we feel we can develop and a player who will add to what we already have in the group.

“Ben definitely fits into the model of what we’re trying to do with our younger players in terms giving them that opportunity in a first team environment and giving them what they need to make an impact at the club."

Discussing Ben's departure to Tranmere, Brentford B head coach, Neil MacFarlane, added: "Ben is somebody who has really grown as a person and as a player during his time with us.

"He's been part of a back three regularly, who have kept a great deal of clean sheets and he's been a really consistent performer for us.

"I have high hopes for Ben to go to the Football League and do really well. He's got a really good career ahead of him if he continues to push himself."
