OXTON sit top of the Cheshire County Premier League after winning a thriller at Bowdon.

The hosts compiled 178 for six from their 55 overs and at 15 for four Oxton looked in deep trouble. But Jonny Crick stood firm with 53 off 147 balls before lower order runs from Jack Breheny (47) and Chris Stenhouse (35no) sealed a two wicket win in the 54th over.

Neston are struggling after losing at Alderley Edge. Dom Smith (60), Luke Camden (43) and Simon Stokes (42) all contributed as the visitors finished on 209 for five. The hosts reached the target in the 41st over for the loss of four wickets.

In Division Two, Upton grabbed a hard-fought win at Davenham after Liam Sundve (4-36) and Sophie Morris (3-31) helped dismiss the home side for 143. At 77 for seven, the game looked lost for Upton, but David Stewart hit an unbeaten 50 to see them home for a three wicket victory.

Port Sunlight are still without a win after losing heavily at Cheadle Hulme by seven wickets. Simon Melberzs made 56 out of the visitor’s 125 all out with the hosts reaching the target in the 37th over. Steve Graham took two for 29.
