CAMMELL Laird 1907were unable to claim a second piece of silverware for their cabinet this season after losing the Macron Cup final to Charnock Richard.

Lairds had hoped to add the trophy to the Wirral DFA Senior Cup they had previously won but their North West Counties Premier Division opponents proved too strong as they ran out 5-0 winners in front of 516 spectators at Chorley FC’s Victoria Ground.

Lairds created the better chances early on, but just as the half looked to be ending goalless, Charnock created havoc in the 44th minute and as the ball reached the edge of the box it was rifled goalwards by Daniel Reegan for a 1-0 lead at the interval.

The second period started badly for Lairds as Charnock increased their lead within five minutes through Spencer Bibby.

As tired legs began to show Charnock increased the pressure on the underdogs and they netted a further three goals to seal the trophy for the first time leaving Lairds ruing their early missed chances.

Lairds now face a long trip to Douglas to take on FC Isle of Man in the North West Counties First Division Cup Final on Saturday.
