Wirral 21, Billingham 26

After some heavy defeats in recent weeks, Wirral put in a much-improved performance for their final match of the season against Billingham.

Playing against the strong wind, they were down 0-19 after 17 minutes but then managed to get back into the game and keep Billingham at bay until half time.

After the break Wirral managed to pull back the score to 14-19 through tries by Ben Brooks and Matt Dalton both converted by Dan Harvey.

With Wirral being more aggressive in the second half the spectators thought that Wirral could pull off a win but a series of missed tackles allowed the away side to score from some 70 metres out with the No8 scoring his third try of the game.

Wirral came back and scored a third try through Chris Crowley but much as they tried could not break the Billingham defence to score that vital fourth try and possible win.

The large crowd enjoyed this much improved performance from Wirral who now look forward to a revamped league next season which will reduce travelling substantially.
