THE Love Lane Liverpool and District Cricket Competition returned on Saturday and there were mixed fortunes for Wirral's three Premier League sides.

Wallasey pulled off one of the results of the day beating Ormskirk at Brook Lane by 46 runs. 59 off 126 balls by Chris Davies helped the visitors reach 183 all out off 60.5 overs despite some fine bowling from Lancashire spinner Tom Hartley who took four for 86 off 28 overs. The target proved too much for Ormskirk with Sumit Raiker (5-56) and Andrew Beaver (4-15) combining to dismiss the hosts for 137.

59 from wicket keeper Steve Hird saw Birkenhead Park reach 215 all out against a strong Newton le Willows side for whom Lancashire's Jack Morley took six for 65. But an unbeaten 94 from opener Ben Walkden meant Park fell to a five wicket defeat.

New Brighton came away from Wigan with a draw after the hosts declared on 231 for six. Sebastian Boates took three for 40 but despite the efforts of Dan Cooke (59) and Matthew Thompson (63) the visitors fell short reaching 212 for seven off 47 overs.

Caldy enjoyed a brilliant start to life in Division One by beating newly-relegated Bootle at Wadham Road. Chris Edwards (3-51), James Ashcroft (3-40) and Lloyd Eastham (3-12) combined to restrict the 2020 Premier League champions to 176 all out. Edwards completed a fine performance by hitting 63 alongside Haroon Khan's unbeaten 61 which sealed an impressive seven wicket win.
