TRANMERE Rovers have recalled Kyle Hayde from his loan spell with non-leaguers Marine as the League Two outfit go into Saturday's crucial promotion clash against Bristol Rovers without two key men.

Tranmere confirmed this week that left-back Calum MacDonald and midfielder Kieron Morris will both be suspended after their bid to have the two red cards they received against Carlisle United rescinded.

And to make matters worse the Prenton Park club have seen one of the suspensions - to Morris - increased by a game.

Both MacDonald and Morris were shown straight red cards in the bad-tempered 2-2 draw against the Cumbrians.

MacDonald's first-half dismissal was followed by a melee of players which resulted in six bookings.

Tranmere boss Micky Mellon was scathing about the decisions of referee Charles Breakspear.

But the Wirral outfit have confirmed that they have failed in their bid to the Football Association to have the decisions overturned.

Commenting on Twitter, they wrote: "The club can confirm that the appeals for both Kieron Morris and Calum MacDonald have been rejected with an additional game being added to Kieron’s suspension.

"The club will be making no further comment."

Carlisle United boss Paul Simpson said MacDonald's red-card challenge on Kelvin Mellor was "disgraceful" but Mellon insisted the defender had "played the ball and nothing else".

The home boss also insisted the Morris dismissal, for a high challenge on Rod McDonald, should have been a red card for Carlisle instead.

It has not yet been confirmed whether either club will face any action over the heated scenes late in the first half after the MacDonald sending-off.

Left-back MacDonald and midfielder Morris have each made 32 starts for Tranmere in League Two this season and been key figures in Mellon's starting XI.

The suspensions have prompted Mellon to recall 22-year-old defender Hayde from his loan spell at nearby Marine where he has been instrumental in the Crosby outfit's efforts to win promotion from the Northern Premier League West.

A spokesperson for Marine said: "Marine can confirm that Kyle Hayde has been recalled from his loan spell by Tranmere Rovers, with immediate effect.

"Kyle made 21 starts plus one substitute appearance across his two loan spells with the Mariners this season, scoring at Warrington Rylands in the league and against Atherton Collieries in the Emirates FA Cup at the MTA.

"We thank Kyle for his efforts this season and wish him well for the future."

Fifth-placed Bristol Rovers travel to Prenton Park on Saturday, two points and two places above Tranmere in an extremely tight League Two promotion race.
