Macclesfield 53 - Wirral 21

FOR the third match in a row, Wirral played a team who had been in a higher division within the last two seasons and with a team that had numerous changes were not in a position to win at Macclesfield although they played with much spirit right up to the end of the game.

Macclesfield did not take the lead until the 20th minute and built up a 17-7 lead at half time after Nick Hearn had crossed for Wirral with Dan Harvey converting.

After Macclesfield scored their first try, Wirral lost full back and captain, Chris Crowley to injury which depleted Wirral’s attacking options.

In the second half, Macclesfield scored six more tries two of which were converted as their team work of having played together showed through.

Wirral, to their credit, continued to press and scored two further converted tries through James Reeve and Joe Adnam, the latter being the last play of the game.

Wirral have three more games to play this season and this Saturday face another long away trip to Sandal (near Wakefield).
