North West Counties First Division South high fliers New Mills visited Lairds with an impressive record to date of only one defeat.

However, after a goalless first half that saw honours even, the second period was a different affair.

Lairds upped the tempo against their physical opponents and after some sustained pressure went in front from a corner in the 53rd minutes as Jake Doran headed a superb goal in a crowded area.

The game then swung both ways as both teams battled out a hard fought encounter, but a clumsy error allowed the away team to level from the spot in the 78th minute as Darren McKnIght levelled the scores.

Unperturbed, Lairds hit back within minutes as the returning Kieran Hamm headed home from a perfect cross by Cameron McGregor and in the 81st minute McGregor sealed victory following a flowing move down the wing, as he received a pass from Kieran Frost and thrashed home a great goal to ensure a deserved 3-1 success and get Lairds back on the winning track in a great team effort.

There was no man of the match as every player played his part, but the team were led with distinction by captain Callum Hulmston who was a rock in defence.
