Wirral Athletics Club's recent run of success is showing no sign of ending any time soon, after the running group claimed its first national road title in over 30 years.

The Bebington-based club took their Northern Championship teams down to Sutton Park in Birmingham to take on the best teams from across the country in the National Road Relays on Saturday, October 9.

Some of Wirral's younger runners showed their potential by coming in the top 10 individual times, but it was the U17 Boys, unbeaten in relays this year, who won the club's first national title on the roads for over three decades.

Wirral AC endurance coach Ronan Kearney said: “ I have been taking our best teams to the national championships for a very long time.

"We have had some near misses and a bronze medal in 1999, but this is the first title for the club in over 30 years.

"It shows what an impact the Wirral Endurance Program has had in the four years since launch and the value of our innovative team-based coaching model.”

At the U17 level, Will Strickley was second fastest and Ethan Brady-Jones seventh fastest overall.
