A group of three friends have managed to raise over £3,000 for a mental health charity based in Wirral by completing four rounds in one day at a local golf course.

Paul Antley, Paul Martin, Jim Brownbill and Mark Irvine from Irby took on the challenge at Arrowe Park Golf Course on June 21.

The money raised will be going to The Martin Gallier Project in support of suicide prevention and bereavement.

Paul Antley said: “We believe that the course is a worthy one and mental health if often negelected.

“We thought it would be a good idea to raise money and awareness for a good local charity on the Wirral, especially with the uprise in mental health problems.”

The group teed off at 4.30am and came down on the 72nd hole at 9.30pm.

Paul Martin said: “We were very lucky with the weather as it had been forecast to rain all day.

“It was a very tough challenge with all 4 of us having blisters on our feet by the end of round 2 and we struggled to stand up again after the coffee at the end of round 3 knowing we had another 4 hours ahead of us.
