Lewey Moynes was on the mark for Ashville in midweek, but saw his side pay the price in their Wirral District FA Senior Cup first round clash with Division Two opponents, Heswall, who emerged 2-1 victors against their West Cheshire League Division One counterparts.

Jack Darlington and Paul Lindfield netted for the winners.

West Kirby also bit the dust after crashing 5-0 at home to Ellesmere Port Town. Doubles from Jamie Easton and Richie McQuade allied to an Andy Henry effort sealed the Mariners’ fate.

A smart double from Ollie Sanderson, supplemented by further efforts from Dom Kelly and Elliot Hughes gave Mossley Hill Ath.a 4-2 victory over Redgate Rovers and Ashville took maximum spoils, when efforts from Josh Malden and Tom Davies secured a 2-0 decision over Newton 2-0.

A solitary strike from Ellis Wiiliams clinched all three points for Capenhurst Villa against Aintree Villa. Chester Nomads’ fought out a 4-4 end-to-ender with Marshalls and it was celebration time for Ellesmere Port Town who chalked up their first win of the season, Chris Forshaw and Steve Rowlands finding the net in Saturday’s 2-1 decision over Rainhill Town.

The points were shared after a goal from Upton AA’s Tom Killea was cancelled out by an effort from Prescot Cables Res. Jon Morgan.

John Howard bagged the game’s only goal, as unbeaten Division Two pacesetters, Bootle St, Edmunds overcame promotion rivals, Heswall 1-0, while nearest rivals, Poulton Vics stayed in touch, Ben Kearney’s double earning a 2-0 result over Maghull Res.

Efforts from Luke Shaw, Nathan Morton and a stunner from Jack Ireland, saw Mallaby edge a 3-2 win over battling Neston Nomads, but a Jacob McLaughlin penalty was to no avail as Ashville Res., who lost 2-1 at West Kirby, Jamie Manifold and Kyle Bennett obliging for the hosts. Elsewhere,

90 minutes failed to produce a goal between Cheshire Lines and Poulton Royal.

Saturday’s Division Three action saw leaders, Runcorn Sports scrape a 1-0 win against third placed Heswall Res., John McDonald bagging the winner from the spot, and in contrast, nearest rivals, Rainford Utd., inspired by four goal Alex Grisedale, beat Aintree Villa Res. 6-3.

Following two defeats on the trot, Sutton Ath. returned to winning ways when John McEwan, Lee Ludgate, Tom McGill and Matty Hall scored in a 4-1 verdict over Poulton Vics Res.

Top scorers in the Youth Division were third placed Runcorn Linnets. Nabil Rahim (3), Ishmael Sonko (2), Fenton Gibbons, Morgan Gunther, Jordan Monthe, Rhys Ferguson, Harry McDonald and and Adam Idowu, all making the scoresheet in an 11-0 rout of Maghull.

Simon Hagos, Tom Cashen and Kian Carroll scored the goals in Bootle’s 3-1 victory over Heswall while Joe McMahon (2) was joined by fellow marksmen Tom Mchael and Ismael Aagaard, as Mossley Hill Ath. beat Runcorn Town 4-0.
