The MSC Express West Cheshire League resumed activities at the weekend, following the lockdown, and Newton wasted no time in kick starting their return to action, thanks to a 3-1 result in their top flight clash with Prescot Cables Res.

Two goal Ross McDowell was the hero of the hour and an own goal confirmed the final scoreline. Liam Keenan bagged the visitors a consolation.

It was plain sailing also for third placed challengers, Mossley Hill Ath., who savoured a 3-0 result at Rainhill Town, courtesy of penalties converted by Ollie Sanderson and Mike Fearnehough, with Elliot Hughes also making the scoresheet.

In Division Two, Neston Nomads played second fiddle to Ltherland Remyca, who celebrated a 4-0 victory with Callum Langton (2), Luke Kelly and Josh Wright on the mark, and it was celebration time for Mossley Hill Ath.'s reserve side, who dented Poulton Vics' promotion hopes, after Ali Soumaharo and Kieran Moran applied the finishing touches in a 2-0 triumph.

The same winning margin was enough for Rainhill Town Res. to secure all three points at Poulton Royal thanks to a goal apiece from Ryan Mitchell and Dave Monteith.

Bootle Res. bolstered their chances of promotion from Division Three after they recorded a 5-0 win against Neston Nomads Res. on Friday evening. Cameron Grant (2), Blain Hughes, Ross McFall and Jack Hughes were the marksmen, but in contrast - despite a double from Liam Brennan - Sutton Ath. forfeited their unbeaten record, after they lost 4-2 at Mersey Harps; Connor Rosato (2), Sean O'Connor and Kevin Wilson obliging.

Consistent scorer, Lee Turkington netted two and an own goal completed the total, as Helsby beat second placed Marshalls Res., 3-1. Dan Abayomi replying.

Capenhurst Villa Res. had John Britten and James Sheridan on target but came up short against Rainford Utd., who emerged 3-2 victors with Johnny Williams, Alex Grisedale and Connor Sanderson getting the goals.

Saen Hayward scored for Willa. Congratulations to Ellesmere Port Town Res, who savoured their first win of the campaign, after goals from Jamie Easton and Kevin Fields clinched a 2-0 success at West Kirby Res.

Elsewhere, a smart double from Poulton Royal Res.' Ewan McCready was negated by replies from Runcorn Sports' John McDonald and Reece Dwyer.

A four-goal salvo from Jay Saad set the seal on Litherland Remyca Ath's 5-2 result at Netherley Legion in the Youth Division. Adam Robinson also got in the act with Lewis Harding and Luke Wendever finding the net for the hosts.

Efforts from Simon Hagos (2) and Tom Cashen tipped the scales in favour of Bootle in their narrow 3-2 win against Marshalls Barkhill, whose contribution was a brace from Ishmael Sesay.
