Tranmere have made their first acquisition of the January transfer window, bringing in Crystal Palace midfielder Nya Kirby until the end of the season.

The 20-year-old played an important role in helping England win the U17 World Cup in 2017, and has represented his country at U16, U18 and U19 level.

Kirby was previously on loan at League One side Blackpool but will be at Prenton Park helping Rovers with their promotion push until the end of the current campaign.

Tranmere manager Keith Hill said: “It is a superb signing. He is a player I have admired for a long time and I have watched him play for Crystal Palace’s U23s.

“He is a great acquisition and I thank the Chairman in particular for allowing us to sign him.

“He is a winner and he has proven that with England U17s winning the World Cup. You can see the national team are trying to develop a winning team throughout their system and he has been a part of that and we are really pleased to have him.

“Nya is a very technically gifted player and good in possession. He works very hard out of possession and he is a great character.

“Nya wants to work hard, continue to learn and he wants to take his game to the next level.”

New signing Kirby added: “I can’t wait to get started and I am really happy everything got sorted out. I see this as a great opportunity and I want to play games and help the Club move up the league.

“The manager told me I was the right player for the Club and make a positive impact, and I am confident I can do that.

“I am a creative player and I like to get on the ball. I like to move the ball quickly and show some flair. I want to get assists and score goals for this Club.”
