The weather once again decimated fixtures in the Houlihan’s Birkenhead Sunday Association Football League, with only seven games surviving, but we did manage to get at least one game played in each of the four divisions, writes John Traynor.

A brace from Josh Griffiths supported by singles from Richie Owens and Charlie Macinnes gave Rock Ferry Social a tremendous 4-1 success at FC Bidston, to take pole position in the Premier Division and keep up their 100% start in the league. Liam Casey replied for FC Bidston.

Queens Park (Harvey Sample, Ben Kerr) and Great Float Sports & Social shared the spoils in a 2-2 result, thus registering a third draw for both teams this season.

Division One action saw a local high scoring derby with Rivacre maintaining their unbeaten start to the season and still head the division after a brace from Joe Brandon supplemented by singles from Alex Wilson, Jamie Eaton and Jake Hulley earned a 5-2 win against hosts Ellesmere Port Athletic, who had Paul King and Jack Sails on target.

Division Two leaders Neston United dropped their first points of the season after failing to notch any goals and have a share of the points with Bromborough Rake in a 0-0 draw, while Higher Bebington JFC registered their first maximum of the campaign with a resounding 8-4 success over Vauxhall Motors FC.

On the scoresheet for Higher Bebington were Will Morris with a hat-trick, a couple from Matt Toner and one each for Dan Wynne, Dan Freedman and Joel Whalley.

Two games took place in Division Three but failed to produce any winners.

Rangers Breaks (Chris Caress, Mike Jones) shared the spoils in an entertaining 2-2 draw with Silva Athletic (Martin Whalley, Phillip Melling) and AFC Raeburn (Danny James) drew 1-1 with Parkgate ST Germain.

There will be no games played on December 27. Wirral Council have also closed the grounds on Sunday January 3, but there will be one scheduled game, with Beechwood in The Cheshire County Football Association Sunday Challenge Cup away to Dee Rangers.
