Tranmere have given a boost to their returning supporters by handing midfielder Danny Lloyd a contract extension on his birthday, until the end of the season.

Lloyd joined Tranmere last month on a short term contract and has helped the club go on a run of form that has seen them win their last five league matches and go eight games unbeaten in all competitions.

The former Peterborough and Salford man was played six times for Rovers, making his debut against Wigan Athletic in the Papa John’s Trophy.

Lloyd, who turns 28 today, revealed signing a contract extension is the perfect birthday present.

He said: “It is a really nice present. It is a really rainy day but this has certainly made my day.

“I have loved every minute since I signed for the club. If I look back to where I was three or four weeks ago, it is worlds apart and I am so pleased to be here and long may it continue.

“It is a massive testament to the lads and the staff, they have made me feel so welcome and I have felt at home from day one. I am happy to be a part of the team and the squad.

“The Gaffer has said there are enough games for everyone to play football and hopefully now I can start some more games and build on the start I have made.

“There is a lot left to come from me and hopefully I will get the opportunity to shine.

“Rule number one for me is to work hard first and the more I get sharper and have more match fitness, my qualities will start to come out even more. I want the goals and assists to start coming and I am due a goal very soon.

“Everyone is pulling in the right direction, and that is hard to get in football when everyone is pulling the same way. We have got that in abundance and that is a massive thing.”

Lloyd will be available for Saturday's home match against Walsall at Prenton Park. The match will be played in front of supporters for the first time since February, with 2,000 lucky fans successfully drawn from a ballot of season ticket holders earlier this week.

If you're not one of the chosen few, the Globe will be bringing you a live match blog from Prenton Park, with updates throughout the match.
