Vauxhall Motors will restart their season on Saturday with a rescheduled second round FA Vase tie, after loosening of lockdown restrictions saw the cup competition reactivated.

The North West Counties League Divison One South leaders had been due to host Stockport Town in a league match, but will now travel north to face fellow NWCL club Holker Old Boys from Barrow instead.

Motors have been exempt until this second round stage, whereas Holker have already progressed through three rounds to get to this point, having beaten Eccleshill United, Crook Town and Redcar Athletic. The Motormen will be seeking their 23rd consecutive away victory up in Cumbria.

This was expected to be the first of three testing away games for Mick McGraa’s squad, with league fixtures at Wythenshawe Town and Stone Old Alleynians to follow, but after the stronger Tier 3 regulations were imposed, no fewer than two-thirds of the league would have had to play behind closed doors.

The league thus decided to suspend games for a further fortnight.

This means their next scheduled fixture should be at home to Abbey Hey on December 19, though this is also the date of the third round of the FA Vase, should Motors progress.

Their Boxing Day derby against Cammell Laird 1907 will have a twelve noon kick off at the Syncreon Arena.
