Cammell Laird 1907 and Vauxhall Motors have discovered what their fixtures look like for the forthcoming season, writes Richard Garnett.

Both sides play in the North West Counties Division One South, with the Motormen only denied promotion last season after the season was declared null and void as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.

Lairds kick off with a home game on Saturday, October 3, against Abbey Hulton United, while Vauxhall also start on home soil, against Strone Old Alleynians.

The two sides will face each other, in what is dubbed the 'A41 derby', on Boxing Day at the Motormen's Syncreon Arena, before the return fixture is held in in Rock Ferry on Easter Monday (April 5). Meanwhile, Lairds were knocked out of the FA Cup on Thursday evening in the final preliminary round. The Wirral club had travelled to St Helens, looking to cause an upset, which looked to be on cards when they took the lead shortly after half time directly from a Paul Bathgate corner.

But the hosts levelled midway through the second period thanks to Colyfar Kamara and with the scores level at full time, went on to prevail 5-4 in the subsequent penalty shoot-out.

Mick McGraa’s Vauxhall side were again frustrated in their latest pre-season game, having to settle for a 1-1 draw with Premier Division visitors Litherland Remyca, in which Danny Cross had put the home team ahead on 16 minutes.

They have also lost the services of talented winger Joe Brandon to Bottle FC.
